2018 1-OZ SILVER CHIWOO CHEONWANG COIN BU
Obverse
The obverse features a roof tile from the Silla Dynasty that depicts a face of “Do ggae bi,” a supernatural creature that protects people from evil spirits. Inscriptions include “REPUBLIC OF KOREA,” “2018 FINE SILVER 999,” and “1 CLAY.” Clay refers to a new concept of measurement and encapsules both weight and quantity. The name “clay” comes from the materials used to make roofing tiles.
Reverse
On the reverse, Chiwoo Cheonwang, also known as “Jaoji Hwanung,” is seen wielding his sword atop a horse during battle. Chiwoo is a legendary, mythic warrior who won the title “God of War” following his numerous victories. His name is inscribed. This is the mint’s third release of a Chiwoo medallion, the first of which was released in 2016.
